Links News
Friday 12th September, 2025
Dear Links Families,
This term, we are excited to share that our school is participating in the renowned Take One Picture project, run by the National Gallery. This initiative aims to inspire a lifelong appreciation of literature and art in our students, and it promises to be an enriching experience for all involved.
Each year, the National Gallery selects a single artwork from its collection to serve as the focal point for cross-curricular activities in primary classrooms. This year, we are exploring Canaletto's exquisite painting, 'A Regatta on the Grand Canal' from around 1740. It has proven to be a fantastic source of inspiration, sparking creativity and engagement among our students.
Our Year 3 children have been enthusiastically decorating their Venetian masks this week, while the Year 2 pupils developed their skills with watercolours to capture the beauty of the artwork. To give you a little taste of this project, you can scroll down to the impressive sketches of the regatta and gondolas created by our talented Year 6 students, which you can find in our Links in Action section. Their interpretations not only showcase their artistic abilities but also demonstrate their understanding of the historical context behind Canaletto's work.
Alongside their artwork, the children have also been working hard in their English lessons to write imaginatively about the painting. Diary entries, descriptive pieces and letters are just some of the examples we have seen around the school. The children are continuing to edit and publish their work and we promise to share more with you over the next week.
