Links News - 17th March 2023

Dear Links families,

Despite being a short one for most children, we’ve still managed to pack in plenty of learning this week. In positive news today, I have read that the DfE and the NEU are in talks to reach an end to their dispute. Talks will continue over the weekend. I really hope that there will be a positive outcome to the talks.

Staffing Updates

I have a couple of updates to share with you regarding staffing for the summer term. Miss Thurlow, one of our Year 4 teachers, will be leaving us at the end of this term. Miss Thurlow joined us as a trainee teacher a year ago and has already had a great impact on the children in her class. I am sure you will join me in wishing her well as she takes the next step in her career. Miss Thurlow will be replaced as 4T’s teacher by Miss Marcelo, who is returning to school on Monday following her maternity leave.

Finally, Mr Triggs will also be leaving us at the end of term. Mr Triggs has worked at Links since 2012 and I’m sure you will agree that he has had a huge impact on the whole Links community during his time here. He is leaving us to begin writing his first children’s book. I, for one, am really looking forward to reading it! Although we are sad to be losing him, we are really happy that he is pursuing his dream.

Red Nose Day

It was great to see so many children and staff dressed for joy today. There were so many different outfits on display today- we had party outfits, fancy dress costumes, pyjamas and so much more. In assembly today we watched a video about George, who has autism, who talks about an organisation that has helped him thanks to funding from Comic Relief. Thank you to everyone who generously donated to this worthwhile cause. I am pleased to let you know that we raised £209.66.

Playscheme

Last week, I mentioned that bookings for playscheme would be closing today and that we would have to make a decision on whether or not to run the playscheme on certain days due to the number of children booked. Unfortunately, having looked at the number of children booked in, we will only be able to run the playscheme for the first week of the Easter holidays (Monday 3rd - Thursday 6th April.) I realise this will be disappointing for some of our families, but I hope that by giving you enough notice you will be able to make alternative arrangements.

House Points

Well done to Green house, who have retaken the lead this week!

  • Green - 4602
  • Yellow- 4592
  • Red - 4532
  • Blue - 4209

Author Visit

Earlier this week, we were lucky enough to have a visit from an author called James Allen, who spoke to all of the children about his book ‘Hugasaurus.’ I know the children enjoyed the chance to find out more about the process of writing a book and what it’s like to be an author.

PTA News

Today in assembly, we drew the winning tickets for the Mother’s Day Raffle. Congratulations to all of the winners and also a huge thank you to everyone who bought tickets as you helped to raise an amazing £670!

Next Friday, 24th March, will be a non-uniform day. Instead of a money donation, we are asking for donations of Easter eggs as the PTA will be holding an Easter egg tombola after school on Wednesday 29th March. If you are able to make a donation, please leave it on one of the tables by the gates next Friday.

Singfest

Today our KS1 and KS2 choirs went with Miss Eades-Jones, Hubbub, Mrs Diaz and a host of volunteers to take part in Merton Singfest. They’ve been busy learning lots of different songs and I know that the parents of the KS1 choir got a sneak preview of their performance earlier this week. They all had a great time singing their hearts out, whilst dressed for joy!

Extended Services

Booking is open for breakfast and after school club for this half term. If you would like to book a place, please complete this form. Please note that all booked places will be charged for.

Attendance

Congratulations to 6G for having the highest attendance this week. They will be sharing their learning with Lincoln next week. Over the past few weeks, each class has given Lincoln a new accessory to wear. He’s currently wearing sunglasses, a necklace and an earring. I wonder what new accessory he’ll get next week!
