Links News

Friday 18th October, 2024

Dear Links Families,

This week at Links, it has been very busy with educational visits. Reception went on their first Links trip to Mitcham Library, as did 1T, 1W and 2EJ. Class 5GP attended the Launch Car event at Reeds Independent School in Cobham. The winning team was Sarah and Joshua, who will be attending the final alongside Kacper and Charlie. Years 5 and 6 took part in a Rivers Restoration Educational Workshop, where they learnt about the creepy crawlies living in the River Wandle.

We would also like to give a  ‘Links Shout Out’ to Christian in 3B, who took part in a 2km fun run as part of the Royal Parks Half Marathon event. Christian ran this to support Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We would also like to give a ‘Links Shout Out’ to Anniah in 6P, Who has starred in a showreel and simple film about a child who has broken a window with a cricket ball. It was shot in a professional studio for a local director and filmmaker for an advert for his ongoing work.

Black History Month

Our Year 5 children have been learning about Sarah Forbes Bonetta, who was Queen Victoria’s Goddaughter. The children enjoyed learning about her, and the link to the Victorian era, which they have been learning about this half term, in History. Our Year 4 children have been reading The Kindest Red, which is the sequel to The Proudest Blue by Olympic medalist and social justice activist Ibtihaj Muhammad. Ibtihaj Muhammad is an American former sabre fencer, writer, entrepreneur and activist. She is best known for being the first woman to wear hijab while competing for the United States in the Olympic Games,[1] as well as for winning a team bronze medal in the Olympics
