Links News
Friday 19th September 2025
Dear Links Families,
This week is our final week of learning based around the National Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’ project. It has been wonderful to see the children' s imagination come alive while exploring the painting ‘A Regatta on the Grand Canal’ by Canaletto. Year 3 made Venetian masks covered in feathers and jewels. Year 6 made persuasive posters about the regatta and several year groups have been writing diary entries. Year 2 have been tasting a range of breads, as inspiration for the bread they will be making in DT in their topic, The Great Fire of London. Lincoln the Bear has enjoyed the week learning with 6P, where he took part in their football lesson and read their class book ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas’.
Macmillan Cake Sale
Friday 26th September
Links Primary is at the heart of our community, and we would like to raise awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, who support families affected by cancer. Therefore, we will be selling cakes on Friday breaktime, instead of our usual tuck shop. All children including Early Years, will be able to buy a cake for £1, all money raised will go to MacMillan.
But we need your help! Please could you help us by bringing in cakes. From Monday, staff at the school gates will happily take cake off your hands, for this wonderful cause.
Just a couple of things to note: No nut cakes please and if bringing in a homemade cake please write a list of the ingredients.
If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Links School Librarians
Links loves reading! We love reading so much that we have a book corner in every classroom, a wonderful school library and books in the playground for playtime. Every year, we choose new librarians, their job is to ensure the school library runs smoothly and remains a hub of literary exploration. All KS2 children were welcome to apply and this week, Mrs Plackett, read so many librarian applications, that it took her ages to choose the Links Librarians of 2025.
Congratulations to Georgie (4T), Kara (4L), Yusuf (5C), Lyla (5KG), Nathaniel (6P) and Noor (6S) who are this year's Links Librarians.
School Council Applications

At Links we are proud of our fabulous School Council, who are an integral part of the Links Primary School community, working hard to ensure that the pupils' voices are always high on agenda. The school council meetings provide a forum for the children to voice their opinions and have their views taken into account. They have helped to make a variety of decisions about school life.
As it is the beginning of the year, the next round of elections will take place for the new class representatives, from years 1-6. You may have heard your child mention that they want to be their class representative. The children will do a speech next Wednesday to their classes, to try and persuade the other children to vote for them.
When all the speeches have been heard, each class will hold a secret ballot to decide who they want as their representative. This is run like an election with all the children being given ballot forms which they place their cross on and put in a box. Results to be announced on Friday, 26th September.
If you want to support your child you could perhaps listen to their speech at home, giving them the opportunity to practise.
Children have shared some of the qualities they feel are helpful to have .
- Good listener
- Organised
- Able to listen to children’s ideas and opinions and share them at meetings, even if it is not your opinion.
- Good role model to others
- Reliable

- Able to remember things
- Prepared to give up some of your own time
- Team player
- Keen to make a contribution to improve the school
- Good communicator
Good Luck to all those taking part.
