Friday 25th October, 2024

Dear Links Families,

This week,  our year 2 children have been busy building and making Tudor houses as part of their Great Fire of London topic and they look amazing!  As we popped into the classrooms yesterday afternoon, all of the children in year 2 were super busy working in groups building their houses and making sure they had the features of a Tudor house.  Yesterday, year 3 went to the Science Museum to support the work they are doing in science on forces and they had a great time at their workshop, Lincoln the Bear really enjoyed it too. Year 6  also rounded off their history topic with a thought-provoking World War Two workshop about Kindertransport  - an organised rescue effort of children from Nazi-controlled territory that took place in 1938–1939.  Luca spoke knowledgeably about the workshop in assembly yesterday.

Looking back, we have had an amazing 8 weeks of learning this half term and we are both so proud of all the hard work and dedication the children have shown towards their learning inside the classroom, out on school trips and while representing the school at numerous competitions.  This half term, as a school, we have managed to go on over 18 school trips, compete in at least  5 different sporting events and took part in numerous workshops.  We have also supported local charities in our community including Macmillan Cancer and the Wimbledon Foodbank.  It has been a very busy half term!

Just reminder that school will reopen for all children on Monday 4th November 2024

To all our families celebrating the festival of Diwali next week. May this Festival of Lights bring warmth, prosperity, and happiness.  Happy Diwali!

Black History Month

This week, our reception class has been busy bees reading lots of books written by black authors. It was lovely to reread some of the books we have shared already and to read some new ones. Our nursery children got creative and replicated artwork by Alma Thomas, using their fingerprints.

Behaviour Policy

We are excited to share with you our revised behaviour policy which can be found here on our website https://www.links.merton.sch.uk/Policies/ . The behaviour working party has been busy working behind the scenes analysing feedback from the surveys we sent out to the staff, children and parents and putting into place new documents and procedures.  The children have responded really well to our new rules and routines and we are very proud of them. We know that this work is ongoing so our working party will continue to meet on a half-termly basis to oversee the policy’s implementation and ensure that it is consistently applied across the school.

Extended Services

This year, we are looking to trial a two-day Playscheme on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th December. We understand that these days can be hectic, and not everyone may have time off from work or may prefer to focus on last-minute Christmas shopping and preparations. To gauge interest, we have created a brief survey. Kindly take a moment to fill it out, as your feedback will help us determine if the Playscheme will run. Please complete the form by Friday 8th November
