Links News - 20th January 2023
Dear Links families,
I hope you’ve all had a lovely week and managed to keep warm in this cold weather!
The Links Attendance Bear
There’s been much excitement in school this week as the children submitted their suggestions for the name of the Links attendance bear, which is looked after by the class with the highest attendance each week.
I am pleased to say that we received hundreds of suggestions and it wasn’t an easy task choosing a winner. In fact, Mrs. Anderson and I could only narrow it down to a top five, so to make it fairer, we put the top five out to a staff vote.
In today’s whole school assembly, I was very pleased to announce that our attendance bear is now called… Lincoln! Well done to Maja in 5D who made the winning suggestion. She has won a £10 book token to buy some books of her choice.
This week’s attendance
I am really pleased to report that nine of our classes have attendance above 95% for this week. This is a big improvement on last week and a trend I hope to see continuing.
Here are this week’s attendance figures for each class:
- Morning Nursery- 82.8%
- Afternoon Nursery- 66.2%
- Full-time Nursery- 96.7%
- Rainbow- 92.9%
- Sunshine- 87.6%
- 1EJ- 97.8%
- 1P- 100%
- 2B- 95.5%
- 2T- 97%
- 3B- 98.5%
- 3P- 93.8%
- 4M- 98%
- 4T- 93.8%
- 5D- 94.3%
- 5KT- 98.4%
- 6G- 98.9%
- 6M- 94.5%
A huge well done to everyone in 1P for being in school every day! They will be looking after Lincoln until next Friday’s assembly. I wonder if they’ll manage to hold onto him for another week.
Values Awards
A bumper week for values award this week, with five children receiving a certificate in assembly for going above and beyond at showing the Links Values. Well done to Dylan in 4M, Amelie in 4M, Keir in 6G, Zara in 3B and Juno in 3P.

Industrial Action
Finally, if you haven’t yet seen it, please take some time to read the email I sent this morning regarding industrial action that the NEU will be taking during February and March. Whilst I am sorry that this will, inevitably, cause disruption to you, I hope that you understand the reasons behind the strike action. It is always a difficult decision to strike and I respect the decision of NEU members to take this action. I hope that it will result in an increase in funding, which all schools so desperately need. If you have any questions, please do come and speak to me or send an email to enquiries@links.merton.sch.uk.
Have a great weekend,
Lee and the Links Team
