Links News- 25th November 2022

Dear Links families,

I hope you have all had a lovely week.

First of all, I just want to thank you all for your kind words since last week. It really will be a wrench to leave such a great community.

I’ve had lots of questions about Otto this past week. With me leaving, this does mean that he will be retiring as a school dog, but he’s looking forward to having a bit more space to run around! He will be going into semi-retirement after the Christmas holidays, but hopefully he will pop in to visit a few times before I leave.

Poppy Appeal

It was great to see the enthusiasm that the children showed for the Poppy Appeal at the start of this month. The British Legion have collected the monies donated and counted it up and I’m really pleased to tell you that we raised an amazing £513. Thank you for your support and generosity.

Year 4 Swimming

This week, Year 4 started their intensive swimming course at Canon’s Leisure Centre in Mitcham. I went with 4T to their first lesson and was really impressed with the confidence that they all showed. Swimming is such an important life skill; you can find more information on swimming lessons at Canon’s here.

Attendance

I cannot emphasise enough how important it is that children are in school every day, however I know there are times that children are unwell and not able to attend. The government’s target for attendance is 95% and research has shown that students with over 95% attendance achieve one grade higher on average in their GCSEs than students with attendance below 95%. Please take a look at this information from Merton on how missed days can affect learning. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s attendance, please do speak to one of us.

Educational Visits

We have had a lot of educational visits going on over the past few weeks. This week, as well as their swimming lessons, Year 4 have been to the cinema. Reception have been to the library this week and are off to the Science Museum next week. There are lots of trips going on over the next couple of weeks. Please make sure you keep an eye on your Parentmail so you don’t miss out on any important information.

Extended Services

If you would like to book a place for breakfast or after school club for this half term, please use this form. Don’t forget that all booked places will be charged for.

Values Awards

It is lovely to see so many children demonstrating our Links Values. This week we in assembly the Values Awards were awarded to: Sviatoslav in 6M, Martha in 5KT and Aswiga in 3P.

House Points

It’s getting very close in the house point competition. I wonder who’ll take the title this term!

  • 1st - Red - 1236
  • 2nd - Yellow - 1212
  • 3rd - Blue - 1200
  • 4th - Green - 1058

Have a great weekend.
