Links News

Friday 31st January, 2025

Dear Links Families,

We finally say goodbye to storms Eowyn and Herminia that have visited us and have kept us on our toes. Although the children have enjoyed the wind (the staff on duty less so), we have had to miss a few playtime this week. However, when we are outside, we are encouraging the children to wear their coats. Just a reminder to write your child’s name in their coats/ hats/ gloves etc. Our lost property storage is overflowing and this will be emptied at the end of term. If you are missing any coats, cardigans, jumpers and other bits and bobs, please take a peek in Lost Property.

At the end of links news, be sure to take a look at Links in Action, where you will find photos of lots of learning that has happened this week. We started the week off in year two with a Florence Nightingale interactive online workshop. The children enjoyed talking to Florence Nightingale about her life and experiences. Our year 6 classes attended a Junior Citizenship event, hosted by Merton. This gave them information and tips on how to stay safe, in preparation for secondary school. On Wednesday, The children in years 1 and 3, had their second Talking Tales workshop with Kimba. They really enjoy these drama workshops and the activities and skills they do, are helping to develop their oracy and confidence. It was lovely to welcome some of our year 6 parents to our SATS  information coffee morning. Thank you for joining us and we plan to host more coffee mornings soon, so keep an eye on your My Child at School notifications. On Thursday, Merton School Sports Partnership held a Sports Leadership Inspiration Day with our year 5 children. During the day, our year 5 coaches were trained on how to plan and deliver PE games and then spent the afternoon teaching the children in years 1 and 3. The children had a great time and we were so proud of our year 5 children for their respect, kindness, resilience and responsibility. Finally, we would like to say thank you to Sarah and Danny Wallis from Field to Fork Produce, for their kindness in donating lots of wonderful and unusual fruit to our reception class, who made fruit salad today, inspired by their book Oliver’s Fruit Salad.

Junior Parkrun on Figges Marsh

On Sunday 9th February, Parkrun will be holding their very own headliner event at Figges Marsh and it would be lovely to see lots of our Links children there. It is for ages 4-11 years and you can walk, jog or run 2km, or volunteer to help at the event. Please click on the link for more information. https://www.parkrun.org.uk/figgesmarsh-juniors/

NSPCC Number Day ………. It is next Friday !!!!

Friday 7th February - Dress up for Number Day and get ready for a fun filled day of mathematical activities.

We cannot wait to see some super duper maths/ number themed outfits (Mrs Anderson is already planning her outfit). Miss Paha and Mrs Murray will be keeping an eye out for numbers, shapes, patterns, numicon and anything mathematical! And yes, football shirts and anything with numbers will be allowed (as long as it’s appropriate). If you can, please bring any spare change to donate for the NSPCC. Just a reminder that this amazing charity works to prevent abuse, help rebuild children's lives and support families. More information can be found at https://www.nspcc.org.uk/
