Links News - 3rd March 2023

Dear Links families,

Another jam-packed week, which has ended with one of my favourite days of the school year, World Book Day. It was lovely to see so many children and staff dressed up as book characters. We had a fashion show in assembly and the children loved seeing each other’s costumes. During the day, the children have had a great time talking about books, listening to stories told by different teachers and trying to guess who the Masked Readers were this year! Most importantly, we hope that today has helped to instil a love of reading in all of the children. Thank you to Mrs. Trounce for organising our World Book Day festivities this year.

Reading in unusual places

This year for World Book Day, we have been running a competition to see who could take a picture of themselves reading in an unusual place. We had lots of great entries from children and staff and have picked eight winners, who all win a book from the book fair. Well done to the following children:

  • Ada (Sunshine class) - reading to a dinosaur under the bed
  • Isabella (2T) - reading in the kitchen sink
  • Yusuf (2B) - reading in a ball pit
  • Adeel (3B) - reading on the top shelf of his wardrobe
  • Shivi (3B) - reading on the bonnet of a car
  • Elsa (3P) - reading at the Tower of London
  • Martha (5KT) - reading outside Tooting Broadway station
  • Oliver (5D) - reading on top of the garden shed

Book Fair

I have been amazed by the crowds at the book fair this week. In total, we have sold £1051.98 of books! Every book purchased means that school gets books as well. I’ve had a great time picking out lots of lovely books to add to the class libraries. Thank you to everyone who has made a purchase this week and a big thank you to the children from Year 5 who helped Niki to run the Book Fair.

Parents’ Evening

Don’t forget that next week, Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th March, we are holding this term’s parents’ evening. If you haven’t yet booked your appointment, please do so here. If you’re not able to make it to parents’ evening, please speak to your child’s teacher to arrange a time that works for you both.

Attendance

It’s been another low week for attendance this week. I know I keep saying it, but it really is so important for children to be in school every day.

Don’t forget, if your child is just feeling a little bit under the weather, it’s fine to send them in. We will always call you if they need to be picked up.

If your child is absent from school, please make sure that you report the reason for your child’s absence- if you don’t we are unable to authorise the absence. The easiest way to do this is via the free Studybugs app.

Here are this week’s attendance figures for each class:

  • Morning Nursery- 80.9%
  • Afternoon Nursery- 83.1%
  • Full-time Nursery- 90.6%
  • Rainbow- 86.3%
  • Sunshine- 100%
  • 1EJ- 80.7%
  • 1P- 89.7%
  • 2B- 94%
  • 2T- 87.1%
  • 3B- 90.6%
  • 3P- 93.2%

  • 5D- 94.4%
  • 5KT- 92.8%
