Links Primary School

Links News - Friday 12th July 2024

Dear Links Families,

It has been a quieter week at Links this week. However, we are  busy preparing for the end of the academic year.  Next week, our year 6 children and Early Years children will be performing for their parents. Year 3 and 4 will be going to Furzedown Rec, Year 6 will be visiting the London Eye and going on a Thames Riverboat and Year 2 will be walking the plank at their Pirate Party!

And not forgetting, that on Monday morning the children will be visiting their new classrooms and teacher, very exciting.

Last Day of School - a reminder

School will close for the summer on Wednesday 24th July at 1:30pm. Please note that there will be no afterschool club on that day.  The last day of nursery will be Tuesday 23rd July at the normal time.

Links will reopen for all pupils on Wednesday 4th September, 2024 at the usual time. If you are new to Links… welcome! Niki will be in touch with you regarding your bespoke start day.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office or email enquiries@links.merton.sch.uk

End of Year School Reports.

This afternoon, we handed out our end-of-year school reports but, please do not worry if you were unable to collect them. We will hold on to them next week and any that are left at the end of the week will be posted. Please note that we can only give the school report to that child’s parent or guardian. If you have questions regarding this, please contact us.

Young Writers' Competition 2024

Earlier this year, children from schools in London and Surrey were invited to participate in an exciting Young Writer's Competition hosted by Wimbledon BookFest, aimed to promote the joy of writing! The theme this year was based around the upcoming Olympics and could be to do with anything linking to the title "The Game". Out of a wonderful number of entries, one of our own managed to achieve a "Highly Commended" award with his story "Nathaniel vs the Roblox Hacker" - Congratulations to Nathaniel Winter who will be published in the upcoming Young Writers' Competition 2024 Anthology, available September/October 2024!

Merton Libraries Summer Reading Challenge

Today in assembly, we were visited by Nick Draper who told the children all about this year’s summer reading challenge. It all got exciting when he said there were prizes on offer for reading!

Saturday 6 July - Saturday 7 September

The Summer Reading Challenge is an annual event aimed at 4 – 11 year olds. Children are encouraged to read six (or more) books of their choice during the summer holidays.

This year’s Challenge is called Marvellous Makers and it’s all about creativity! In partnership with Create, a leading arts charity, and public libraries, this year's Challenge celebrates kids' creativity and storytelling abilities. Children will be encouraged to explore new books and stories while taking part in free activities, from arts and crafts to music, dance, and more.

How the challenge works

  • Children can join at any of our seven libraries. The challenge starts on Saturday 6 July.
  • Borrow books and get reading. You can read any books!
  • Children will get stickers as they progress with their reading
  • Children who complete the challenge will receive a medal, a certificate and the chance to win one of many fantastic prizes.

The Summer Reading Challenge is a FREE holiday activity for children. It's all about reading for fun, aiming to improve children's reading skills and confidence. The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to develop the habit of reading for pleasure and helps them to read more often and enjoy doing so more.

The Summer Reading Challenge is presented by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with libraries.
